Carlo, often called “God’s Influencer,” was known for his deep love of the Eucharist and his passion for technology. He used his skills in computer programming to create websites that shared the beauty of the Catholic faith and documented Eucharistic miracles. Despite his young age, Carlo lived a life of extraordinary faith, kindness and service to others. His story reminds us that holiness is not reserved for the distant past or for adults alone; it is something our children can aspire to in their everyday lives.

Two miracles have been attributed to Carlo’s intercession: one involving the healing of a young Brazilian boy with a severe birth defect, and another involving a Costa Rican girl who recovered from traumatic brain injury after her mother prayed at Carlo’s tomb.

As a school community, we celebrate this moment with great joy and hope. Carlo’s life is a powerful example for our students, showing that faith, compassion and using one’s talents for good can truly change the world. We encourage you to talk with your children about Saint Carlo Acutis and explore ways they can live out their own faith with courage and creativity.

Let us continue to support one another in nurturing the spiritual growth of our children, inspired by the life of this remarkable young saint.

PARENT / TEACHER MEETINGS

Thank you to all families who will attend Parent/Teacher Meetings this week. These meetings are a vital part of the school year and play an important role in strengthening the partnership between home and school. They offer a valuable opportunity for teachers and parents to come together, allowing parents to ask questions, share observations, and better understand their child’s learning journey. When parents and teachers work together with open communication and mutual respect, it creates a stronger, more connected school community where every student is encouraged to reach their full potential.

INTERSCHOOL CROSS COUNTRY

A group of our students will proudly represent St Lawrence at the upcoming Interschool Cross Country on Monday, 22 September. This is a fantastic opportunity for our students to showcase their athletic abilities, determination, and school spirit while competing alongside students from other schools in the region. We wish all our competitors the very best of luck. We are confident they will demonstrate outstanding sportsmanship and represent our school with pride.

SCHOOL DISCO

The much-anticipated School Disco will take place on Thursday, 25 September. Students are encouraged to come dressed as something beginning with the first letter of either their first name or surname. We look forward to seeing the creativity and enthusiasm this theme inspires across all year levels. Costumes must be appropriate for a school setting, and we ask that students wear sensible footwear for dancing and safety.

Disco session times are as follows:

• Pre-Primary – Year 2: 11:00am – 12:00pm
• Year 3 – Year 6: 1:00pm – 2:30pm

A treat pack will be available for students to purchase at the disco for $3. This will include a juice box and a packet of chips. Please note that this is a child-only event; teachers will be present to supervise each session.

As a special highlight, the Year 6 students will be performing their end-of-year dance routine for the Year 3–6 students at 2:15pm. Year 6 parents are warmly invited to attend this performance and celebrate their children’s hard work and creativity. Tickets for the Disco will be available for purchase in Week 9.

STUDENT FREE DAY

A reminder to all families that Friday, 26 September, is a Student Free Day. On this day, students will not attend school. Staff will participate in a full day of Professional Learning. The focus of the day will be on deepening our understanding of a Catholic Worldview and exploring how this perspective informs our teaching practices, classroom environments, and relationships. Staff will also engage in professional dialogue around how the Catholic Worldview connects to Catholic Social Teaching, ensuring that our faith is not only taught but also lived and experienced in meaningful ways throughout the school community.

PARKING

We kindly ask parents parking along the council oval verge to park vertically (nose-in or tail-in), rather than lengthwise. This helps maximise space and allows more vehicles to park safely. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.

SPORTS UNIFORM

Due to Balcatta Primary School cancelling their Athletics Carnival last Friday and rescheduling it to this Thursday, 11/9/25, we will need to make some changes to sports this Thursday.

Years 3,4,5, and 6 will be required to wear their sports uniform on both Thursday and Friday, as we have several activities that need to be completed before our own carnival on Friday, 19 September. I apologise for any inconvenience and appreciate your support.

ATHLETICS CARNIVAL 2025

As I am sure that you are all aware, the St Lawrence Athletics Faction Carnival is due to take place this year on Friday, 19 September. All students from Kindy to Year 6 will participate in this event. The children in PP to Year 6 will be expected to wear their faction coloured T-shirt, hats, and their red sports shorts or skorts on this day. The students have been training very hard during lessons and at lunchtime with the year 6 students, and are all very excited.

Prior to the carnival, some events will take place during sports lessons. If your child is absent this Thursday, Friday, or next Tuesday, they may unfortunately miss these events, even if they are meant to be participating. Unfortunately, in this situation, another student will be selected to compete. This does not exclude them from inter-school selection.

The NECPSA Inter-school Athletics Carnival is scheduled for Wednesday, 5 November at HBF Stadium.

Over the next week, each child will bring home a programme of events for the day, with their events highlighted. It is impossible to accurately predict what time events will take place, but hopefully this will help as a rough guide. Races start at 9.00am and lunch is at 11.30am.

At the conclusion of the carnival, students will gather in faction bays for trophy presentations.

Parental support and assistance is vital to the smooth and efficient running of the day, and it is only with your help that we are able to run such events for your children. I would be most grateful if parents could be prepared to help out where required on the day.

CROSS COUNTRY

Congratulations to all students who participated in the St Lawrence Cross Country Carnival. For the first year ever, the Pre-Primary and Year 1 classes took part and did amazingly well. I was very impressed with the amount of effort that all students put into their events and representing their faction to the best of their ability. Every point counts, and I am very pleased to say that this year the Blue faction was able to amass the most points. Great job!

The NECPSA Inter-school Cross Country Carnival has now been rescheduled to take place on Monday, 22 September at Yokine Reserve. Good luck to all competitors!
